Roys Peak – Best Hikes in New Zealand

It’s a peak in between the Wanaka town and the Glendhu Bay of New Zealand. The beautiful location between these two places is famous among visitors to choose as a priority hiking site. How to reach Roys Peak

There are three towns from where you can reach the Roys Peak. The shortest way to reach the Roys peak is through Wanaka which is only 6 km away. The intermediate journey to one of the best hikes in New Zealand can be done through Queenstown which is at 68 km distance.

The longest route is via West Coast, Haast town that is 142 km long pathway and can be avoided to save time and energy.

The Hiking Path of Roys Peak

The main track at the base area of Roys Peak follows the Roys Peak Track car park which is situated on the Mount Aspiring Road.

The track is much busier during summer season especially of Roys Peak area for hiking. It is advisable to take the route with walking or cycling as the car parking space is less there which becomes full very early at that time of the year.

You can follow the easy route of the Waterfall Creek Track which directly links the Roys Peak hike area.

What to expect from the Roys Peak

You can spend time here at Roys Peak with your near ones by performing full day walk along with taking the mesmerizing view of Lake Wanaka. The track line will take you till the parent peak of Mount Aspiring or Mount Tititea.

The peak has all the features of best New Zealand hikes with summit passageway crosses through lush green grasses till you reach the end ridge. You may also come across with the Mount Roy alongside the Roys Peak trail.

The Best Part to See at the Roys Peak

The climbing to the Roys Peak from the lake way across the wide farmland is fabulous and cherishing all the way around. What makes it different from other is the prevalence of chirping sound of skylarks and grasshoppers; those never let you feel alone!

Things to note down:

Each year, there are certain times when the Roys Peak is closed due to lambing. The dates are from 1st October to 10th November.

During the winter season, do not forget to carry alps equipment like ice axe as the higher most section of the trail has terrain supporting avalanche where hiking is challenging.
